EXERCISES FOR YOUR EYES

Just like you exercise for all parts of your body like face,abdomen, legs etc. Eye exercises are very important to keep your eyes healthy too. We put our eyes to work the most so they need some care too.

Especially in today’s time when we are all the time consumed by digital screens like cellphones, laptops etc. Reason could be due to work to or just entertainment, but our eyes are suffering from those harmful rays all day. This causes a few common problems to our eyes like:

  • Dry eyes
  • Eye strain
  • Blurred vision
  • Headaches

So to prevent such problems, here are a few exercises to help you keep your eyes functioning healthily.

CHANGE FOCUS

Sit down properly and challenge the focus of your eyes through this exercise.

  • Lift your pointer and keep it at a few inches of distance from eyes.
  • Try to keep the focus on your finger.
  • Now very slowly, move your finger away from your face. But do not break the focus.
  • Now break the focus from finger and look away.
  • Now make the contact again and focus on your outstretched finger.
  • Now move the finger back tonear your face, keeping the focus.
  • Repeat the process thrice.

NEAR AND FAR FOCUS

Near and far focus is also an exercise to improve the focus of your eyes. This one is supposed to be done in seated position too, as the last one. This exercise will surely help.

  • Instead of pointer finger,hold your thumb 10 inches away from your face this time.
  • Focus on your thumb for 15 seconds.
  • Now focus on anything that is 10-20 feet away from you for 15 seconds.
  • Bring your focus to thumb again.
  • Do this for five times.

FIGURE EIGHT

Do this exercise while sitting as well and you will feel your eyes getting better.

  • Choose any point on the floor which is 10 feet away from you.
  • Draw an 8 by your eyes on that point, focusing on the point you picked.
  • Keep tracing a figure 8 for thirty seconds and then switch the direction of it.

20-20-20

Eyes should not be stuck on a single object for a long time.Otherwise this can cause eye strain. Like people who continuously work on a computer 24/7. This is to keep your eyes healthy and digital eye strain free.

  • After every 20 minutes of working on a computer, look at something else which is approximately 20 feet away from you.
  • Keep looking at something else for about 20 seconds and then continue your work.

  • Sunglasses are not just fashion. Wear them to protect your eyes from UV rays.
  • Spray some cold water in your eyes to keep them clean and fresh, especially in hot and dry weather.
  • Do not smoke. Smoking is not only for your lungs but also eyes.
  • Get an eye exam every few years. One can get eye diseases even if they do not notice any problems.
  • Vitamin-A is very nutritious for eyes. Eat foods that are high in vitamin-A, healthy fats and antioxidants. A healthy diet is important for every part of the body.
